Sean Wight, former Listowel Emmets, Kerry Minor and Melbourne Demons player is facing an uphill battle against cancer.
What a disturbing coincidence that Sean Wight and Jimmy Stynes, two Irish/Demons players contracted the disease in a short period of time to each other.

'Very sorry to hear this. Sean Wight played midfield for the Kerry minors in the 1979 All Ireland Final and if I'm not mistaken Jim Stynes played in the same game for Dublin.......

Afraid Sean would have been too young for that team in '79- a strong North Kerry contingent with John Chute ( Emmets) captain and amongst others were Liam Kearins, Ambrose etc. Sean would have played on the 1982 team where he had as team mates John Keane, Jack O'Connell etc.

I'd love to see it again. Best wishes to Sean.

Sean was a great loss to Kerry football when he left to go to OZ, Just think he was a minor on the day that we lost the 5 in a row ( '82) Yes Kerry went on to win a 3 in a row but I believe that if we still had Sean we would not have gone through the Famine years '87 - '96 when he was in his prime. He is the most underated player that ever left these shores for the A.L.F. and also is what could be described as one of natures gentlemen Hope you recover soon and we see you soon on your annual visit back to Listowel. Best wishes SEAN BAN. with your recovery

Best wishes to Sean in his battle with cancer. It seems to be everywhere these days sadly.
Does anyone have the lineout for that 1982 Minor Team? I think I have the Kerry Yearbook 1982 in a box at home in the Kingdom with all the Golden Years stuff. The only players I can readily recall from that team apart from Sean Wight, are Michael McAuliffe ( Spa), John Keane ( Emmets) and David O'Donoghue (Glenflesk).

Michael McAuliffe is the only player from that team that I remember throwing shapes at breaking into the senior set up subsequently during the 3 in a row.
Ambrose ODonovan and Tom Spillane came from earlier minor teams.
Do you have the Dublin team townend?

I think thats right KG. McAuliffe looked to have it all but never made it in the end. Pity, seemed like a very gifted footballer.I think Jack O'Connell, Timmy Brosnan, John Keane and Michael Keating all got 'runs' at a later date with Kerry Seniors.

So the Dubs didn't get a lot from their minor team either really.
Michael McAuliffe made 6 Championship appearances for Kerry in 1987-89 according to Niall Flynn's excellent book. Most memorably I'm pretty sure that he passed the ball to Mikey Sheehy for That goal in Pairc ui Chaoimh in 87. He was involved in the move at any rate.

I remember him & that catch in Croke Park,I think it was a bit over shadowed by Seanie Walsh's catch a few years earlier & never got the recognition it deserved. If memory serves me correctly he was one of the minors that had a moustache at a young age,a bit like Ciaran Duff.Theres great credit due to him for going away making a life for himself 28 yrs ago when there was no internet or anything like to let him know what he was getting into - I hope he makes a full recovery.
