Though we are the premier football county in Ireland with the highest expectations and winning the All Ireland will only suffice I think it is rather cold, impersonal and lacking in planning or foresight to let a player off the panel at this late stage in the league. Granted all avenues must be checked out and the best available players must be unearthed but surely if we need a different replacement goalkeeper/player the player in situ should have been given more playing time earlier in the league. We are already in the league semi final and I know we cannot carry 3 goalkeepers but the timing is way out and a blot on the management.

Some people need to relax and stop rushing to a computer to complain about a player not on the panel. He could be sick or on holidays for all we know. Patience.

I'm delighted with the team selection.
Very little downside if Kerry lose and a lot if they win.
How much would we learn if we played a first 15 compared to how much we will learn from this selection?
Would we learn anything from playing any of the first six subs, compared to what we will learn from playing the alternatives?
17. Marc Ó Sé (An Ghaeltacht) 18. Paul Galvin (Finuge) 19. Aidan O’Mahony (Rathmore) 20. Declan O’Sullivan (Piarsaigh Na Dromada) 21. Bryan Sheehan (St. Mary’s) 22. Darran O’Sullivan (Glenbeigh/Glencar)

Dublin won last year because of their strength off the bench and arguably we lost because we lacked the same. It looks like we will have a serious bench this year and that will be crucial, particularly if and when we meet the blanket defensive systems. It's a long time since we had so many options in defence.
People need to relax a small bit and show some patience. Yes the goalkeeper decision is a puzzler but there must be a reason for it

I think the team selection is great; good for JOC to try out the younger players and mix it up a bit. We have nothing to lose but all to gain from this experience, win or lose. We are in the semi anyways!!!

Sons of Pitches, I know what I am talking about and I dont need advice about rushing to my computer. My computer is with me all the time anyway and I am on this forum since 2004 and I think that entitles me to offer my opinion. By the way Tomás Mac an tSaoir is not at present on the Kerry football panel. Now, he may and I hope he does come back on the panel in the very near future

I'd love to see A O'Mahony FB but how will he contend with the likes of the Brogans? Has he got the legs? He would appear to have everything else and I can vision some mighty fielding, he is a pure footballer, reliable and has his eyes open when delivering it up the field.
I guess JackO will be proven right and that the rookies are good enough to pull this out of the fire, and if they do then competition for places will go through the roof with some seasoned stalwarts having to prove themselves all over again. I can see some of the new blood putting in some steller performances, Eg Curtin v Dublin. Same old story, as inspires my poetry, The Kerry Ingredient, it is times like this when you see the fruits of all the hard work in getting young lads from "possibles to probables, young pretenders to worthy, leading and unrelenting contenders, soldiers of splendour, defiant drven deadly defenders" -I broke into a line of verse there!
Now who are the next Darrens/Declans, Seamus Moynihans, etc. Curtin and Enright for me, although I admit to a North of the county bias. Along with Maguire it is a while since NK contributed such a rush of high quality fresh blood.
Here's to numero 37!

Darren, Declan, Gooch, Star, Galvin, Donnacha..............<< Just named 6 forwards who I can't see retiring anytime soon! lol There are not as many places to be had in the Kerry starting 15 as people think. Can we please win the 2012 AI this year and stop focusing soooo much on the future. Crowley, Enright, McGuire etc are stepping forward in defence. We're possibly about to lose one of our best wing backs of all time so could we shut up about the future and do what needs to be done to get the guy another AI medal before he retires!!!
lol The Kerry seniors are begining to sound like the Kerry minors now, with all this "ah this guys young", "next year", "the future". haha Arsenal have been saying that for the past decade and look what they've won!!! All-Ireland or bust, it's the Kerry way!!

I see Maurice Condon is returning to Austin Stack Park tomorrow. We last had the dubious privilege of this presence at the Armagh game. Armagh were worthy winners of that match but Mr. Condon was atrocious with most people unsure in which direction a free would go when he decided to intervene. He rivals Syl Doyle for occupancy of the bottom rung.

Don't disagree there Veteran. Still, nothing this man could do would ever rival the disgraceful performance of a certain gentleman in a certain recent AI final.

In the game V Laois the boys had to make way for the men when Tomas was sent off. Should the boys not do well V Mayo, are they worth continuing with? After all they are in their 20's and good players should have made it at this stage. Its likely that our half back line will suffer if the half forwards do not tackle. Players must know at this time of their life that to win an AI all players must play their part. Or are poor standards now allowed to creep into Kerry football. I think this is the case when I saw that some comments suggesting that a half foraward who cannot tackle should have got 2011 player of the year.

Whether we beat mayo or not tomorrow is irrelevant, it will be interesting to see how our fringe players fare out against a team that will be doing their utmost to qualify for the semi finals. I am looking forward to seeing how Johnny Buckley fares out, likewise Enright at corner back. He will, I presume, be marking Mayo's all time top scorer, Conor Mortimer. It will be a good test of him tomorrow and should tell us a lot about his prospects of playing championship this summer.
Mayo were hugely impressive against an albeit under performing Dublin team. Will they put 2 high class performances together? That is a question that will be answered tomorrow. As for the suggestion that it would be some achievement if they do win, I would strongly disagree. Mayo have an excellent record against us in Tralee in recent years, I think they have beaten is twice since '06 in Tralee. I saw a good few Mayo jerseys being worn around the town of Tralee this afternoon. An interesting game ahead tomorrow and the radio will be an essential to keep up with all that will take place throughout the afternoon.

Very harsh if so. Maybe he's no great tackler (neither is Ronan O Gara, but he does ok!!), but Darren does work hard when we don't have the ball and shows a willingness to pressure the opposition. Of course that would be sub-standard in terms of justifying his right to wear the Kerry jersey.....EXCEPT for the fact that he is a huge part of our attack! ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png) I don't want to hear about his tackling ability if he's scoring 1-2 a game and winning 3-4 scorable frees per game with his pace and talent.

Nobody is looking beyond 2012 seamo, and yes, the rookies have come of age and now the test, throw them in at the deep end. Having had a few games they now face the test, are they worth their salt and will they make the cut for the championship? It is a 20 man game and you need only those you can rely on, given how different games play out. Having said all that, fellas get better so you do have a mixture of experience and faster legs and JackO & Co are expert at devising strategy and tactics.
Ok Darren is not a tackler, but the tactic is to work around weaknesses, Eg have him waiting inside unmarked for the rebound and a score is inevitable. Was Mickey Sheehy a big tackler? Deenihan was the least classy player we ever had but he was peerless in man marking and we would have won the 5 in a row if he was there on the day.
The more I read comments on here the more I realise that we also have quality supporters in terms of knowledge, but we get our wires crossed in translation. I ber if we were all chatting over it all in a pub we'd agree on most things, or at least respect other views. It is only opinion afterall and we are all proved wrong in the next game. Just wait and see what the Mayo game turns up and all my wisdom will sound trash just like everyone elses! But we are suckers for talking nonsnesne and it keeps us sane, so keep it up!

A lot of talk around the village last night of backing Mayo, prices, etc. I contend that this Kerry side will win today against a good Mayo side.

I just want to note that I didn't criticise Darren, I was defending him above, making similar points to yours. Just wanted to say that incase there was any confusion.....And alot of people are talking beyond 2012 ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) !

Weeshie said it better than anyone could about Gooch. If he stays inside and we put good ball in he will do damage. Why he keeps coming out for the ball mystifies me.

Radio Kerry in and out again today. Lost the last 5 mins. Sounded like a great come back and new stars on the rise. Anyone know the technical reason for this "buffering" that happens when you lose the signal ?

Played with the breeze in the first half but were completely outplayed at mid field with the backs under fierce pressure; Sheehan did his best but Star was trying to catch any ball with one hand and was not at the races; half back line over run ( Brosnan very out of sorts), McGuire given the run around in the corner; Crowley brave but too many running at him to make a difference. 1-8 to 0-3 coming up to half time but 4 lightning points left us in a better position;Gooch very dangerous but the referee disallowed what looked like a perfectly good Kerry goal but then allowed a rather dubious effort from Mayo when it looked distinctly a "square ball". Changes at half time brought Galvin in at 10 for O'Callaghan and Darran for BJK- it could very well have been O'Leary who sat out the second half as he did little in the first and was twice blocked down in possession; the introduction of the aforementioned plus later Declan and Marc had us on the offensive but the ref again intervened incensing the crowd when penalising Gooch for an illegal handpass- strangely this was the only handpass he called all day.Gooch was fouled for a penalty following a storming run by Crowley( now a free man following the dismissal of Mayo wing back for 2 yellows) which Sheehan powered to the net; minutes later we looked like getting another when Curtin ( again impressive) was fouled but the official deemed that play should continue. A draw was secured by a last minute "50" from Bryan Sheehan whose free taking was again of the highest standard. A draw means both meet again next Sunday in the semi final and surely a final beckons after this display. One final word on the referee who was to put it mildly diabolical- inconsistent, blowing for unnecessary fouls, not applying the advantage and generally out of his depth- if he was a player for either side serving up this performance he would have been withdrawn early.

I can't believe how bad the ref was for both sides. If he is the best in Waterford, I worry for them. ruined a great game and Mayo were unlucky not to win. I agree the introduction of the subs made us better. Bryan Sheehan's free taking was a joy to behold.
